Professional education and experience

Arsen Arakelyan received his BC in Biochemistry (1995-1999), MS in Biochemistry (1999-2001) from Yerevan State University, then defended his PhD (2004) and habilitation (2019) at the Institute of Molecular Biology NAS RA.

He has 23+ years of experience in the field of molecular biology, functional genomics, computational biology, and bioinformatics. Arsen Arakelyan has published more than 130 papers and has filed 2 patents. He has got a DAAD Research Stay Award, a Cardiff University International Collaboration Award, and a Royal Society International Joint Project Award. During recent years, Arsen has co-led the development of the roadmap of the Armenian Genome Project and has led the national COVID-19 test production in Armenia. Currently, he is in charge for molecular genetic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 lineages in Armenia using 3rd generation sequencing.
